I have been a State Farm Insurance Agent for 17 years, helping individuals, families, and business owners explore insurance options based on their needs and circumstances.

My connection to service extends beyond the agency. I am a U.S. Army Veteran, a University of Nebraska graduate, and an avid Cornhuskers fan. I am currently serving my third term as President of the Superstition Mountain Rotary Club and also serve on the Board of the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce.

My professional, military, and community experiences have helped shape the way I approach my work as a State Farm agent and Good Neighbor. I am proud to serve individuals, families, and businesses throughout Mesa and the surrounding Arizona communities.

September brings Labor Day travel, a full return to school and college routines, football season, fall activities, and changing household schedules. Later in the month, the first day of fall provides another seasonal reminder to consider changes around the home, vehicles, family, and business.

Labor Day weekend is a popular time for road trips, family gatherings, outdoor activities, and end-of-summer travel. Arizona drivers may be traveling throughout the Phoenix area or heading to destinations elsewhere in the state.

Before a Labor Day weekend road trip, drivers may want to check:

  • Tire pressure, tread, and overall condition

  • Battery condition

  • Coolant and other vehicle fluids

  • Air-conditioning performance

  • Windshield wipers

  • Headlights, brake lights, and turn signals

  • Brakes

  • Spare tire or tire repair equipment

  • Current vehicle registration and insurance information

  • Roadside and emergency supplies

Arizona temperatures can remain high throughout September, so carrying drinking water, a phone charger, flashlight, and basic emergency supplies can also be helpful.

September 11 is recognized as Patriot Day and provides an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, while recognizing the service and sacrifice of first responders, military members, and others who serve their communities.

As a U.S. Army Veteran, service has played an important role throughout my life. Those experiences continue to influence my commitment to serving customers and being actively involved in the Mesa and surrounding Arizona communities.

And as a University of Nebraska graduate, September also means one more thing around our agency: Cornhuskers football. Go Big Red!

Arizona's September weather can also present challenges for inexperienced drivers. Young drivers can benefit from understanding the risks associated with distracted driving, extreme heat, blowing dust, heavy rain, and monsoon conditions.

Wearing a seat belt, avoiding phone use while driving, allowing additional travel time, and keeping water and basic emergency supplies in the vehicle can help drivers prepare for Arizona road conditions.

September Heat and Arizona Vehicle Maintenance

The calendar may say fall is approaching, but September in Mesa and the Phoenix area can still feel very much like summer.

High temperatures can place additional demands on vehicle batteries, tires, cooling systems, air conditioning, and other mechanical components.

Arizona drivers may want to regularly check:

  • Tire pressure and tread

  • Battery condition

  • Coolant and vehicle fluids

  • Air-conditioning performance

  • Windshield wipers

  • Headlights and brake lights

  • Brakes

  • Spare tire or tire repair equipment

  • Emergency supplies

Because parked vehicle interiors can become dangerously hot, children and pets should never be left unattended in a parked vehicle.

The first day of fall arrives in September. While Arizona homeowners may not be preparing for falling leaves and freezing temperatures just yet, the change of season can still provide a useful reminder to look around the home.

Homeowners may want to discuss their insurance after changes such as:

  • Completing a renovation or addition

  • Making significant home improvements

  • Purchasing higher-value personal property

  • Installing new home features

  • Adding security or safety equipment

  • Changing how part of the property is used

  • Adding structures or making other significant property changes

Homeowners insurance needs can change as a home, household, and personal property change over time.

Common reasons to discuss existing coverage with an insurance agent include:

  • Adding a new or teen driver

  • Buying or replacing a vehicle

  • Moving to a new home or apartment

  • Sending a student to college

  • Changing a daily commute

  • Changing where a vehicle is regularly kept

  • Completing significant home improvements

  • Getting married

  • Welcoming a child

  • Purchasing valuable personal property

  • Starting or changing a business

  • Experiencing other significant household changes

An insurance review provides an opportunity to discuss what has changed and whether current policy information, coverage options, limits, and deductibles reflect current circumstances.
